The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is dusting off an 8-year-old parking project designed to solve the chronic congestion issues plaguing the busy Kalupur railway station area.

Despite several previous attempts to roll out private-public partnerships for building multi-level parking blocks, high land acquisition prices and bidding delays have repeatedly stalled progress.

The Cost of Gridlock

With thousands of commuters passing through Kalupur station every day, unmanaged vehicles block major bus lanes, causing severe traffic blocks. Local merchants complain that the lack of clear parking spaces reduces foot traffic.

The revised tender specifications offer higher incentive models for operators, which the AMC hopes will encourage competitive bids during this cycle.
